How to Fully Purge and Reinstall Medal

A full purge means deleting everything on your computer that has anything to do with Medal, allowing Medal to have a clean install. This can fix a lot of issues if Repairing doesn't.

Backing up your local clips

If you have clips that have not currently been uploaded to Medal, you can either upload them now and skip this step, or we can back them up to be uploaded at a later date.


  • To back up your clips, go to the Search Bar and type %appdata%. Open the folder.

  • Locate the Medal folder in %appdata% and double-click to open. Next, locate the store folder and double-click to open.

  • Locate the clips.json file, right-click and select Copy. Find an area on your desktop, right-click again, and select Paste.

Beginning the Purge

  • First, we need to shut down Medal. Go to the bottom right of your Taskbar, click on the button, find the Medal Gold Icon, right-click it, and select Quit Medal.

  • Go to the Search Bar and type %appdata%. Open the folder.

  • Locate the Medal folder, right-click and select Delete.

  • Next, go back to the Search Bar and type %localappdata%. Open the folder.

  • Locate the Ferox_Games_B.V folder, right-click and select Delete.

  • In the same folder, locate the Medal folder, right-click and select Delete.

  • If you come across this error at any time, restart your PC and start the purge again. Even without the error, restart your PC and move to the next step.

  • Open MedalSetup.exe to reinstall Medal.

Restoring your local clips

If you backed up your clips.json file earlier, we can restore them back to Medal.

  • First, we need to shut down Medal. Go to the bottom right of your Taskbar, click on the button, find the Medal Gold Icon, right-click it, and select Quit Medal.

  • Go to the Search Bar and type %appdata%. Open the folder.

  • Locate the Medal folder and double-click to open. Next, locate the store folder and double-click to open.

  • Take the clips.json file you pasted to your desktop earlier, drag it into the store folder.

  • If you come across this window while trying to move the clips.json file, select Replace the file in the destination.

  • Restart Medal and all your clips should now appear!
