How to Capture with Medal

When you launch a game, Medal will automatically detect it and display the in-game overlay. This overlay gives you quick access to all available capture options — whether you want to grab a clip, start a long recording, or take a screenshot.

Clip Recording

Medal will automatically detect your game as soon as you open it. With just a tap of a button, you can capture the last 15, 30, 60, or even up to 20 minutes of gameplay! Medal will stop recording as soon as your game closes - you will be able to clip again once you open a game.

Default Clipping Button: The default button for clipping is F8. You can change this in Settings > Clip Settings.

Storage: In clip mode, only the length of your clip is stored. For example, if you set your clip length to 30 seconds, only the past 30 seconds of playtime will be saved.

Long Recordings

Long Recordings allows you to record your entire game session from the moment you launch your game! In this mode, we start capturing your gameplay as soon as you launch your game and end it when your game closes.

To enable this feature, navigate to Medal's Settings > Clip Settings.

Start/Stop Long Recording Hotkey: If you press Alt+F7 once, you will start recording a regular video. Press the same hotkey again to stop the recording.

Bookmarks: Once a Long Recording has started, whether you started it yourself or you've enabled automatic recording, the Clip Hotkey (Default: F8) will change into a Bookmark Key. Pressing the clip hotkey will insert a bookmark into your session so you can easily mark points of interest during your gaming sessions, which you can then create clips of in the future.

F8 is the default keybind for creating clips and bookmarks. If you don't change either of them, you will also create a clip, if you have a Long Recording running and want to create a bookmark!

Automatically Record entire Game Session: By enabling this feature, Medal will start a Long Recording as soon as you launch a game! This way, you will never miss a single second of your game time.

Storage: Long sessions can use a lot of storage! If you are playing a game with a Long Recording active for 8 hours, we will store 8 hours of video!

Important note: Clips and sessions created by screen recording cannot be uploaded unless you are a Premium user.

Turning Off Recording

When recording is turned off, Medal will detect your game and show you are playing it, but nothing will be recorded.

If you want to fully turn off Medal recording, go to the settings and turn off the Record with Medal option. This will stop all recording activities until you turn it back on.
