Sometimes, NVIDIA GPUs can mistakenly detect the Medal Desktop App and Desktop Editor as games. Because of this, enhancements and filters may be applied, which can cause issues such as:
- The app appearing blurry.
- The video player (in both the app and editor) slowing down significantly.
(Quick example of the app being all blurry because one of those filters)
Disabling UI Hardware Acceleration
You can disable Medal's UI Hardware Acceleration to prevent NVIDIA from applying these unwanted enhancements without affecting the recorder's ability to use your GPU for clipping.
Steps:
- Go to Settings > System > Advanced Settings in the Medal app.
- Turn off UI Hardware Acceleration.
- Restart the app to apply this setting.
Disabling NVIDIA's enhancements
You can remove those enhancements by manually adding an exception on NVIDIA's Control Panel:
- Open up the NVIDIA Control Panel and go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Select Program Settings and find Medal & MedalEncoder in the program list.
For both of these, we will want to change the following entries:
- Turn OFF Anti-aliasing (in case of Blurry app/editor)
- Turn OFF Background Application Max Frame Rate (in case of slow app/editor)
Note: If Medal or MedalEncoder is not in the list, you may need to manually add them by browsing for the executable files.
With that done, you can restart the app or your computer and it will load itself without those enhancements, solving the issue.
