What is the Medal Research Group (MRG)?

The Medal Research Group, or MRG in short, is a community-driven program where selected Medal users help shape the future of the platform through direct product feedback.
Members participate in research activities such as interviews, moderated and unmoderated user tests, prototype tests, feature walkthroughs, and surveys. Their insights help our Product, Design, and Engineering teams improve Medal’s features, usability, and overall user experience.

Who can join MRG?

MRG is open to:

  • Adults aged 18+

  • Teens aged 14–17 with a signed Parental Consent Form

Because some research may involve voice and screen recordings, all users under 18 must submit a signed parental consent form before participating in any research activities.

Applicants must also:

  • Actively use Medal

  • Be willing to give honest, constructive feedback

  • Be able to participate in occasional interviews or user tests

  • Have a stable device capable of screen and audio recording (when required)

How do I apply?

You can apply to join MRG by completing the official Application Form.

If you are 14–17, you will need to download and submit the Parental Consent Form before you can join.
The form can be found here: Parental Consent Form
Once completed, please email it to tim@medal.tv with your children's Medal username for identification.

Once we review your application, you will receive a confirmation message with the next steps.

What kinds of research activities will I participate in?

MRG members may be invited to take part in a variety of user research formats, including:

• Interviews

One-on-one conversations with our product or design team to discuss your experience with new or existing features.

• Moderated User Tests

A guided session where a researcher observes how you interact with a feature or prototype, either live or through usertesting.com.

• Unmoderated User Tests

You receive a task to complete independently, record your experience, and provide feedback afterward.

• Prototype & Feature Walkthroughs

Early access to upcoming features, builds, or UI changes to help us identify issues before release.

• Surveys

Short questionnaires to quickly gather structured feedback.

Not every member will participate in every activity! Invitations depend on your age, setup, game genre, device type, and other user preferences.

Are there rules or guidelines for participating?

Yes. To keep the program safe and productive:

General Guidelines

  • Provide honest, constructive, and respectful feedback.

  • Only share details from private test builds within the MRG channels.

  • Do not leak upcoming features or early builds outside the program.

  • Follow the instructions for each user test carefully.

  • You must be responsive when accepted into a research session (no-shows may lose eligibility).

Privacy Guidelines

  • Users under 18 can only participate with a signed Parental Consent Form.

  • We may collect voice recordings and screen recordings during certain tests.

  • We do not collect facecam videos from anyone!!

  • All data is used exclusively for research and product development.

What rewards can MRG members earn?

MRG members may receive several types of rewards depending on their participation:

• MRG Profile Badge

Awarded after completing at least one research project and remaining an active member.

• Medal Premium

Given after completion of a research project. The duration varies depending on the size and difficulty of the study.

• Game Gift Cards

Provided only for very large research studies and given to participants who submit exceptionally detailed and valuable feedback.

• Early Access to New Features

Depending on the project, MRG members may get to test upcoming features before they’re released publicly. Access is tied to participation in the corresponding study.

Rewards are not guaranteed and depend on project requirements and individual participation quality!

How often will I be asked to participate?

Participation varies based on ongoing product needs. Some months may have multiple studies; others may have none.
You are not required to join every session, but active and reliable members will be prioritized for future research opportunities and rewards.

Where does MRG take place?

All MRG communication and research coordination happen on the Medal Early Access Discord Server, in dedicated MRG channels.
Once accepted, you’ll receive an MRG role and gain access to the appropriate channels, forms, and instructions.

Can I leave the program?

Yes. You can leave at any time by messaging the MRG staff team or simply asking to have your role removed.
You may reapply in the future, unless removed for misconduct!

Who can I contact for help?
